The Call to Worship and Invocation

This is the day that the Lord has made.  We will rejoice and be glad in it.  In this new year, we pray for renewed hope and love in our land.  Dear Heavenly Father, teach us how to pray and how to obey Your Holy Word.  Amen.

Morning Hymn -- Take The Lord With You Everywhere You Go

Performed by Russ Thomas, 5th Avenue

Church of Christ, New York

Gloria Patri

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.  As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen. Amen.

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;

The third day he rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of  God the Father Almighty, from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.  Amen.

Scripture Reading -- Romans 6:3-11

3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.

8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for another week of life and blessings.  Thank you for your marvelous grace and mercy.  Thank you for seeing fit to grant us another day.  Thank you, Father.  Please accept our  humble plea for forgiveness of our sins against you. We approach your throne with a contrite spirit and a sorrowful heart for our shortcomings.

Master, we adore you and bless your name.  We know that greater is your faithfulness toward us, even in this time of pandemic and utter world confusion. We pray for strength that we may hold up the blood-stained banner and be living testimonies of your presence in our lives.

Now Father we pray for those whose names are on our payer list.  We lift them up to you.  You know what they stand in need of and we are confident that you will supply their every need.  Bless Pastor Rogers as he continues to lead us through our trying times.

We praise you, we bless you, and we thank you for being our shelter in these stormy days.  Amen.

The Sermonic Scripture -- Nehemiah 2:1-3

1-2 One day in April, four months later, as I was serving the king his wine he asked me, “Why so sad? You aren’t sick, are you? You look like a man with deep troubles.” (For until then I had always been cheerful when I was with him.) I was badly frightened,

3 but I replied, “Sir, why shouldn’t I be sad? For the city where my ancestors are buried is in ruins, and the gates have been burned down.” (TLB)
