The Call to Worship and Invocation

O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Give thanks unto our God, for He has done great things for us.  This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and praise the Lord.

Scripture Reading -- Isaiah 40:1-5

1 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.

2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the LORD’s hand double for all her sins.

3 A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the LORD ; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

4 Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.

5 And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

Gloria Patri

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen, Amen.

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;

The third day he rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of  God the Father Almighty, from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of Saints, the Forgiveness of Sins, the Resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.  Amen.

Johnie Mae Williams, Christine Ferguson, Rev. Michael Henderson, Rev. Veronica Buckner, Betty Jo Smith,  Bishop and Episcopal Supervisor, George D. Crenshaw and family, Bettie Gill and family, Mattye Cridell and family, Reverends Jawwad and Tammi Love and families, and Rev. Kaloma Smith and family,  in the passing of their loved ones.

Heavenly Father,

Today we come before your presence with thanksgiving in our hearts and praise on our lips.  We bubble over with joy, unspeakable joy, that you still have mercy and grant us favor. Your Holy Word comforts us and brings a peace into our lives that we cannot understand.   We are not worthy of Your considering us, yet You continue to give us all that we need.

As we worship You today in words and song, we pray that we will keep our hearts in tune to what You would have us do.  Show us the way to minister to the needs of those who don't know you in the pardon of their sins.  Help us to be a guiding light to the brothers and sisters whose paths are filled with darkness.  Keep our feet on the narrow path so that we may lead them to You.

As we move forward in this day, please continue to bless Pastor Rogers as he labors in the work for which he has been called. And, Lord when we've done all that we can do, we pray that you will give us a home in Your kingdom where we can live forever.  Amen.

Sermonic Scripture Reading - Ephesians 1:15-23 (NIV)

15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people,

16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.

17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[f] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,

19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength

20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,

21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church,

23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
