FIRST AME ZION CHURCH VIRTUAL WORSHIP SUNDAY, October 25, 2020 The Call to Worship and Invocation O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together. This is the day that the Lord hath made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Dear Lord, I pray that you will make me an instrument of Your peace. Song of the Morning – Every Praise Scripture Reading -- II Timothy 2:1-13 (NLT) 2 Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. 2 You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others. 3 Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them. 5 And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules. 6 And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor. 7 Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things. 8 Always remember that Jesus Christ, a descendant of King David, was raised from the dead. This is the Good News I preach. 9 And because I preach this Good News, I am suffering and have been chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained. 10 So I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen. 11 This is a trustworthy saying: If we die with him, we will also live with him. 12 If we endure hardship, we will reign with him. If we deny him, he will deny us. 13 If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is. Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen. Apostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; The third day he rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of Saints, the Forgiveness of Sins, the Resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. Altar Call/Pastoral Prayer – Way Maker We are praying for you. Rev. Keith Johnson, Octavian Rodriquez, Angelikka Carter, James Spaulding, Dwaine Giggans, Johnie Mae Williams, Christine Ferguson, Rev. Michael Henderson, Rev. Veronica Buckner, Betty Jo Smith, Bishop and Episcopal Supervisor, George D. Crenshaw and family, in the passing of their son. Come Heavenly Father. Abide with us. Please forgive us for our sins. We love and adore You and seek Your face. Our hope is in Thee. We pray for those who are less fortunate, we pray for those who have much, and we pray for those who are at their wits end with the pressures of life. God we acknowledge that You have been better to us than we could have ever been to ourselves. We thank You for Your faithfulness, grace, and mercy towards us. We depend on You because You are the solid rock upon which our hope is built. We magnify and bless Your holy name. Lord, bless all who are sick and bereaved. Please ease the pain of Bishop Crenshaw and his family as they deal with the realization of losing their son. May his soul forever rest with You. Now as we depart from Your throne of grace, we pray that You will keep your loving arms of protection around us. Please continue to bless our Pastor and our First Church family. In the matchless, marvelous name of Jesus we pray. Amen. Song of Praise - Goin' Up Yonder Tithes and Offerings – "All things come of Thee O Lord, and of Thine own, have we given Thee ." And the Lord said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the Lord. 3 And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee. 4 And Samuel did that which the Lord spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably? Song of Preparation - Lord You Are Good Sermon -- It's Time to Let Go Rev. First AME Zion Church Virtual Worship Sunday, April 11, 2021 The Call to Worship and Invocation This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. In this new year, we pray for renewed hope and love in our land. Dear Heavenly Father, teach us how to pray and how to obey Your Holy Word. Amen. Morning Hymn -- Pass Me Not Performed by Pastor E.Dewey Smith Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. The Apostles' Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. Amen. Scripture Reading -- I Corinthians 15:12-22 12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. 15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. 16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. Altar Call/Pastoral Prayer -- Call Him by His Name Performed by Damien Sneed and Friends We are praying for you: Rev. Keith Johnson, Octavian Rodriquez, Angelikka Carter, James Spaulding, Rev. and Mrs. Braxton, Dwaine Giggans , Johnie Mae Williams, Christine Ferguson, Rev. Michael Henderson, Rev. Veronica Buckner, Monalisa Olague, Mrs. Barbara Hill, Beola Baker, Greater Cooper AME Zion Church in the passing of Deaconess Virginia Allen , David Williams, Donna Rouse and Family Dear Heavenly Father, It is again Heavenly Father that we approach Thy throne of grace. We come with adoration and thanksgiving for all your blessings and grace towards us. We are not worthy to gather up the crumbs from under your Holy table, yet you feed us and fulfill all our needs. First Church prays your forgiveness for all our sins, individually and collectively, as we all have sinned and fallen short of your word. Dear God, please accept our repentant spirit and grant unto us a better understanding of your will and your way. We want to be better disciples and live out your love through our lives. Now God, some of us are heavy laden today -- death has taken our loved ones and we are sad. Others of us are suffering health issues and financial burdens, but we know that you have all power in your hands and that you will provide our every need. We pray Lord for the desires of our heart and we pray for a stronger determination to serve and follow thee. Now as we approach this coming week, be with us Lord and give us the strength and courage that we need to face this dying world. We thank you Lord for the healing of our land from the horrible reality of the coronavirus pandemic. Open our eyes that we may see that you are the Living God and besides you there is none other. Let this be our testimony as we move forward in our homes, schools, and places of work and recreation. We pray a special prayer for the Pastors of the California Conference and for our Pastor as he continues in Your Word. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,” 8 and, “A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for. 9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Altar Call/Pastoral Prayer -- Hammer Ring Performed by Bobby Jackson, white Hill AME Zion Church, York, South We are praying for you: Rev. God forbid. 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. 19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. 20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Altar Call/Pastoral Prayer -- Pray for Me Performed by Rev.
